Work on Xpand Rally is coming to an end. This week two more terrains have been finished: Scottish mountains and canyons of Colorado. Scotland will greet the player with trails of rain the headlights, Colorado – with sky lit with setting sun.

Both terrains reflect real world. To prepare them properly Techland sent a special team to visit Colorado and Scotland. Their task was to gather materials for creating the game terrains. Thanks to them the XR team received over 1000 photos and a few dozens of pictures taken from an airplane. In addition the team used topographical maps of UK and USA while creating hills, valleys and rivers.

Because Xpand Rally races take place in different parts of the world the player gets to race in different environments – from deserts to polar snows. This gives him opportunity to experience cars’ physics changing in different weather and on different surfaces (gravel, sand, snow, ice and asphalt).

Terrains in Xpand Rally are created on Chrome Engine. This enabled the XR team to create realistic and abundant in flora terrains of a few dozens of square kilometers. It will give the players a completely different feeling from driving in a narrow gutter known from most racing games.
