"Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" follows the adventures of a wild and rambunctious mustang stallion as he journeys through the untamed American frontier. Encountering man for the first time, Spirit defies being broken, even as he develops a remarkable friendship with a young Lakota brave named Little Creek. The courageous young stallion also finds love with a beautiful paint mare named Rain on his way to becoming one of the greatest unsung heroes of the Old West.
The traditionally animated feature film was directed by Kelly Asbury and Lorna Cook and produced by Mireille Soria and Jeffrey Katzenberg from a screenplay by John Fusco. The original score is by Academy Award®-winning composer Hans Zimmer ("The Lion King"), with songs co-written and performed by Grammy winner Bryan Adams.
"Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron -- Search for Homeland" for Game Boy Advance is a mission-based adventure that transports players to the mythic Old West. After a sudden thunderstorm scatters a herd of majestic mustangs, the player controls either Little Creek or Little Brook, who must find and return the horses to their homeland, one by one. The successful gamer will require sharp reflexes, a good memory, and a "way" with animals in order to gain the trust of the wild horses. Gaining the horses' trust is accomplished in two gameplay modes, Taming and Trail Walk, which involve challenging action/puzzle segments. Players will experience a range of action, from the mild nurturing of the horses, to the breathtaking races against other animals through rugged terrain and over challenging obstacles.
In "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron -- Forever Free" for PC, Spirit returns from gathering fruit for the herd only to find Rain taken by rustlers and his herd missing, leaving his Homeland deserted. Players assume the role of Spirit who must find a way to nurse Rain back to health while returning his herd to the Homeland in five movie-inspired levels. Players have to collect special items, race animals to reveal secrets, and interact with numerous familiar characters from the animated film.
