'Largo Winch' Announced for PC, PS2 and XBox

by Thomas on Feb. 13, 2002 @ 12:38 p.m. PST

Ubi Soft proudly announces of a five-year licensing agreement with Dupuis Publishing to bring the world of Largo Winch to video games. Ubi Soft will develop and publish an adventure game for the PlayStation 2, PC and X-Box in September 2002.

Largo Winch to be released in PlayStation® 2, PC and X-box format

Created by scriptwriter Jean Van Hamme and artist Philippe Francq, Largo Winch is one of the greatest comic book success stories in recent years: since 1990, when the first book was released on the market, 2.3 million copies have been sold. In 1998, the book Voir Venise was the best-selling comic book in France, and the fourth-best seller overall in French bookstores. In addition, a series of 26 television episodes adapted from the world of Largo Winch was aired in France starting March 2001 and will be aired in Europe this Fall.

The world of Largo Winch lends itself perfectly to video games: the character is the epitome of the ultimate hero, and his adventures are packed with action and suspense. In the beginning, Largo - a Yugoslavian orphan - is adopted by the world's wealthiest man, who is in search of an heir. When his adoptive father dies, the now 26-year-old Largo inherits the Winch Corporation, a financial consortium worth more than 10 billion dollars. Drawn to the challenge of presiding over such a vast empire, Largo takes over from his father, and plunges headfirst into a new, unexpectedly vicious world.

The Largo Winch world's prime target is the 15-35-year-old audience, so Ubi Soft will add this game to its young adult range. The games will stay true to the world of Largo Winch: based in a setting of wealth and privilege, and including a significant financial element, this thought-provoking console game mixes adventure and action.
