Ubi Soft FILES NEW CLAIM against Take 2 IN ITALY

by Thomas on March 15, 2002 @ 8:48 a.m. PST

Ubi Soft Entertainment has filed a claim against Cidiverte JOAG Italy Spa at civil courts in Gallarate, Varese (Italy) for the producing and selling of unauthorized copies of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Rogue Spear on PC in Italy in 2001. Cidiverte JOAG Italy Spa is a fully owned subsidiary of Take Two Inc.

From the summer of 2001, Red Storm and Ubi Soft Entertainment have repeatedly received information indicating that quantities of the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six(tm) Rogue Spear(tm) game on PC were appearing on the Italian market in a version neither produced nor marketed by either Red Storm or Ubi Soft. Various investigations revealed that an Italian company had been commissioned by Cidiverte JOAG Italy Spa to proceed with the duplication of the game.

Alain Corre, Ubi Soft Managing Director for Europe, Asia Pacific and South America commented: "Our company has been disadvantaged with what looks pretty much like piracy and we will definitely seek to restore our rights."

This latest development comes in addition to the current litigation started by Red Storm, a UbiSoft company, against Take Two Limited in the United Kingdom.
