'Treasure Planet' For PSOne & PS2 Announced - Screens

by Thomas on May 26, 2002 @ 8:42 p.m. PDT

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is delighted to announce the forthcoming release of Treasure Planet on PS one and PS2, the action adventure based on Disney's forthcoming animated movie.

Treasure Planet brings Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson's epic adventure of bloodthirsty pirates and buried treasure, not just right up-to-date, but into the future - a future in which the spaceship Legacy is over-run by mutinous pirates, led by the cyborg, John Silver.

Young Jim Hawkins escapes from the spaceship, taking with him the key to stellar riches, Flint's Map. Battling through deep space, beset on all sides by supernovas, black holes and space storms, as well as the evil John Silver and his bloodthirsty crew, Jim tries to reach his destination and become rich beyond his wildest imaginings…

As Jim, you'll explore four weird and wonderful worlds from the movie, as you race, fight and shoot your way towards finding the loot. Among the tasks ahead of you, you'll be required to explore and find parts with which to fix the engine of RLS Legacy; fire cannons to protect the ship from a meteor shower; pilot a futuristic longboat through a treacherous attack by the mutineers; defeat them in a pitched battle and even fly a jet ski at breakneck speed. To help you, you'll have Morph, Long John Silver's own mimic pet, who can assume the form of just about any object he chooses - as long as it's of similar size.

PS2

Each world is split into sublevels and has multiple objectives, culminating in a series of flat-out races in a variety of futuristic craft, in which you'll attack or escape enemies and pull amazing stunts. You'll meet a host of characters from the film as you do so, including Scroop, B.E.N. the robot and Captain Amelia, as well as hordes of bloodthirsty pirates and aliens.

With exclusive clips from the film to punctuate the action, movie characters to help and hinder you, and with all the original voice talent, Treasure Planet is an exciting intergalactic adventure that promises to be just like being in the movie - and more! Can you escape John Silver and capture the treasure?
