Zidane Football Generation 2002 - Facts and Q/A

by Thomas on May 9, 2002 @ 9:30 a.m. PDT

Zinedine Zidane, winner of the Golden Ball in 1998, champion of Italy, European champion, and World champion launches his first ever PC CD-Rom. The French and Real Madrid captain is one of those rare talents who is able to reinvent football almost every time he kicks the ball. Apart from his obvious charisma, his dribbling, his so often decisive razor-sharp passes and his well-placed free kicks are the foundations of his style and legend.

Zidane Football Generation 2002 is a football game in 3D real time. Using the well-known renderware engine, Zidane Football Generation demonstrates sporting simulation of the highest quality and photo-realistic graphic rendering of the grounds and players.

14 stadiums and more than 70 perfectly animated teams make up Zidane Football Generation 2002. A specific AI for each player applies different game strategies and tactics depending on the opponents. Zidane participated in the ‘Motion Capture’ to reproduce the unique technical movements which make him such an exceptional player. The very special care taken with the gameplay provides a mastery that is instantaneous but moves towards ever richer and spectacular actions. All this makes Zidane Football Generation one of the most ambitious football games of 2002.

Apart from the inevitable game modes - World Cup, club leagues and friendly matches - Zidane Football Generation also offers two specific modes:

The Zidane Challenge: a competition of skill in penalty and free kicks

The Zidane Career: playing as Zinedine Zidane you replay ten of the most important matches of his career. Zidane has personally selected the matches which forged his legend.

What made you want to give your name to a video game?

Zinedine Zidane: « I thought that it would please youngsters to join me in a game… Techniques have so far advanced and so many sensations can be experienced, that it seemed really interesting to me. »

Are you keen on video games?

« Yes, although I don’t have much time to play. Today, I find the graphics and the movements of the players so incredibly realistic. I love football games, of course, because you can discover what it is really like on the pitch, the techniques (dribbling, tackles, goals….) and the tactics (position on the field, change of players…) And I also like the adventure and Formula 1 games. »

What games did you like when you were a child (apart from football of course!)?

« I lived in a large housing development, and we played many games with the other children. One of our favorites was hide-and-seek: two children had half an hour to get away, and ten others had all day to find them. They could go anywhere except back to their own homes and they couldn’t leave the district. To win, you had to stay unfound for at least eight hours! »

Are you a fair player?

« Let’s say that I do not like losing, either in judo when I was younger, or in football today! »
