Activision, Inc. announced today that the company has acquired the publishing and distribution rights to Gungrave for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system in Europe and Australia/New Zealand. A third person, all action game featuring anime-style cel-shaded graphics, Gungrave was developed by Red Entertainment™ of Japan, and is expected to ship winter 2002.

“The action in Gungrave is relentless and intense, giving gamers an adrenaline-fuelled roller coaster ride through a set of superbly designed levels,” states Kathy Vrabeck, executive vice president global publishing and brand management for Activision. “Developer Red Entertainment - in conjunction with legendary Trigun creator Yasuhiro Nightow - has produced a masterpiece for the demanding all-action gamer, featuring huge battles, evil bosses and scenery-crunching gameplay. With its DVD-quality cut scenes and frantic combat, the game cannot help but draw players into its dark, stylish, futuristic world.”

In Gungrave, players assume the identity of an un-dead assassin sent from beyond the grave to destroy a shady criminal organization. Bearing simply the name “Grave,” the player is armed with two fast-action handguns and a coffin on his back containing concealed heavy weapons. Players will unlock even more devastating moves as they progress through six intense stages fighting waves of gun-toting thugs.
