More than 500,000 people have played the title and more than 200,000 gamers pay a monthly subscription rate to join in the fun, which includes rallying others online to capture or protect sacred relics hidden somewhere in castles in a role-playing world based on Arthurian, Norse and Celtic mythology.
MMORPGs debuted six years ago and are quickly gaining subscriber bases. Dark Age of Camelot is known for its opportunities for collaboration play. The title takes advantage of advanced client/server technology delivered over the Internet to provide a virtual, persistent and highly visual environment in which tens of thousands of people can play simultaneously, worldwide. More than 60,000 people around the world have played simultaneously.
Mythic was looking for an agency that could take the game to a broader audience as well as help position the company as one of the leaders in the development of the game industry. The company recently received a $32 million investment from TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity and buyout firm.
