About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

Gamers can now join an exclusive investigative team and become experts in the science of crime detection with Cold Case Files from Activision Value Publishing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision.

Based on the original, top-rated forensic television series "Cold Case Files®," which airs on A&E and is hosted by Bill Kurtis, the Cold Case Files PC game allows players to use today's high-tech forensic tools and the most sophisticated technology available to catch killers who assume the search is off.

In order to crack the homicide files that have been collecting dust in the archives and discover the hidden truths in Cold Case Files, gamers review historical evidence of each case, interview people of interest, collect new data, and perform lab tests among other investigative work. Based on the quality of detective work, players can experience multiple levels of success that vary from securing a life-sentence for a criminal and helping an innocent person get an acquittal to being denied a warrant for arrest, due to lack of evidence. Award-winning journalist Bill Kurtis, the host and producer of the TV series, also narrates the game.

Murders go unsolved. Killers slip through the cracks. With the passage of time, families lose hope and another unsolved homicide file settles into obscurity. The pattern is familiar, but changing -- thanks to the efforts of a special breed of detectives. Cold Case Files tells the story of their work. The series takes you on a journey, step-by-step, through the methods used to catch the culprit. Cold Case Files is a pioneer in the non-fiction forensics genre. Episodes have been universally hailed by law enforcement agencies across the country and are regularly used as models for investigative technique in training seminars.

Minimum system requirements for Cold Case Files include Windows 98/2000/ME/XP, DirectX® 9.0, Pentium®III 500Mhz, Memory 64MB, 200MB hard drive, 8x CD-ROM, graphics card 8 MB DirectX® compatible, sound card Direct® compatible.

Cold Case Files for the PC is currently available in North American retail stores for a suggested price of $19.99 and has been rated "T" ("Teen") by the ESRB.
