Originally released via Xbox Live Arcade on August 15, 2012, the game had the majority of its programming done by one man, Dean Dodrill. First created as an entry in Microsoft's 2009 Dream.Build.Play contest, Dust ended up winning and was published by Microsoft. In 2013, the game made its way to Steam and is currently available for Windows, OS X and Linux as well as XBLA.
An action RPG with detailed 2D sprite work, Dust looks like a game that would have been at home on the SEGA Saturn. Playing as the mysterious warrior Dust, you are tasked with saving the world, while simultaneously uncovering the mystery of your own past.
Our review of the original Xbox 360 release awarded Dust 8.5/10. The Metacritic aggregate score for Dust is 83/100.
Current price on Dust is $14.99. As soon as the promotion goes live, the price will drop to $0.00 for anyone with an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. 48-hour and 14-day trial subscriptions do not qualify for the free game.
You will be able to get the free game directly on your Xbox 360 console or via the Xbox.com marketplace.
UPDATE: The second game for Games with Gold in May is Saints Row The Third.
