Ubisoft Pre-E3 2019 Media Briefing Summary

by Cody Medellin on June 10, 2019 @ 11:30 p.m. PDT

During Ubisoft's Pre-E3 2019 Media Briefing, it presented new coverage for The Division 2, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Gods & Monsters, Just Dance 2020, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Roller Champions, Watch Dogs Legion and more.

Orpheum Theater, Los Angeles, CA

Instead of the typical Just Dance troupe coming out on stage, things kicked off with a symphony giving a taste of what an upcoming Assassin's Creed Symphony tour will play this year. After that, the reveals started to come in hot.

Watch Dogs Legion

Past rumors and teases came true, as we were shown about 11 minutes of gameplay in a near-future version of London where, like many of the cities the series has featured thus far, comes complete with surveillance technology run amok. Aside from a brand-new setting, the big reveal was the ability to recruit up to 20 people to serve as your gang of vigilantes to take down an oppressive system. The ability to get into the backstories and stats for anyone you want to recruit is cool, but it is the fact that you can get proper British grannies to sneak up on guards and shoot them in the face that really resonated with players in a cool and absurd way.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Feast

In a complete medium shift, the next thing presented wasn't a new game but a new show premiering on Apple TV Plus. Starring Rob Mcelhenney, the show is all about the comedic trials of working in a game studio on the most popular fictional MMO. Ubisoft's involvement seems to go beyond more than consultation for how real development works, as they also seem to be the featured publisher for the game.

Rainbow Six: Siege

A new mood trailer was shown for the game's latest expansion pack, Operation Phantom Sight. The new operative is a U.S. Secret Service agent codenamed Warden, who carries a handgun and has special glasses powered by a special watch. The level that was shown features a cabin in the snowy mountains. There isn't going to be much waiting time for this one, as it hits players tomorrow.

Brawlhalla

The Super Smash Bros.-like fighting game got a roster boost as Finn, Jake and Princess Bubblegum from the recently ended series, "Adventure Time," are now part of the game, with the original voice actors reprising their roles. Aside from that, the game now features a duo-based mode, so 2v2v2v2 fights are a thing and the Tree Fort from the series is a playable stage. The additions were made available today.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Jon Bernthal came by with a new trailer setting up who the villains of the game are, but the real news came later, with the game enabling AI partners to show up for solo players in the game post-launch. A new program was also announced called Delta Company, which allows players to show off anything Tom Clancy-related. The inclusion of "Terminator: Dark Fate" was also teased, and the closed beta was announced for Sept. 5.

Tom Clancy's Elite Squad

A mobile game was announced where you gather some of the major characters from the various Tom Clancy franchises into big RPG battles against other famous enemies from the series. Almost every game from Splinter Cell to Rainbow Six and The Division were shown in a more cartoony style, but no release date for the iOS and Android title was given.

Just Dance 2020

Even though the conference started with an orchestra, that didn't mean that the company's best-selling rhythm title was going to be left out. Aside from the expected platforms like PS4, Switch and Xbox One, the company re-confirmed support for Google Stadia. In a surprise, the game is also coming to the Wii, showing that there's still some casual life on that platform even after two console successors.

For Honor

A new limited-time event was announced for tomorrow that brings a supernatural setting to the game. Set in a ghostly Japanese village, the event promises new customizations for all of the heroes as well as a new mode called Soul Rush, but no details were provided about how that mode plays.

Rainbow Six: Quarantine

Thought to be an expansion to Siege, this is a new stand-alone game where the focus is on PvE. No release date was given for it, but there was a mood trailer that hints at protecting people who are in danger of turning into zombies while also trying to fend off zombie hordes.

The Division 2

The game's new episodes were discussed, with the first one centering on the woodlands of Washington, D.C., including the National Zoo and an abandoned college. The second episode takes players to The Pentagon, and it comes packed with a new raid for players. The final episode, however, is probably the most exciting, since you'll be hunting down for an important person in New York City, giving you the chance to see the locale of the first game in a summer setting instead of a winter one.

Uplay+

After Origin did it last year, it should come as no surprise that Ubisoft is throwing its hat into the subscription game. Priced at $14.99 per month, the subscription service gives PC (and Stadia in 2020) players access to the entire Ubisoft library. While no other third parties are in the service, the subscription gives you access to both betas for upcoming games and premium editions of all of the current and upcoming Ubisoft games.

Roller Champions

In a rumored but still unexpected move, the next game takes aim at a modified version of roller derby. Teams are set to 3v3 matches, and points are scored if you capture a ball and throw it through a vertical hoop — but only after you take a lap with the ball in your possession. The game is out on alpha now but only until the end of the week.

Gods & Monsters

As usual for the company, the final game of the presentation is something brand new. The most succinct way of describing the game would be that is it an extremely colorful adventure with a heavy slant toward Greek mythology. No real gameplay was shown, but we expect more out of this since it has a Feb. 2020 release date.
