About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

5. 'Grand Theft Auto V' (PS3/X360)

by Judy on Jan. 25, 2013 @ 12:30 a.m. PST

Set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and the surrounding area, Grand Theft Auto V delivers a world of unprecedented scale and detail bursting with life, from mountaintops to the depths of the ocean.

Reggie Carolipio: Rockstar sounds like it's packing everything that it couldn't cram into previous titles into an even more massive open-world jungle of steel and concrete. I'm looking forward to it if only because it's Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar has tantalized everyone into analyzing every pixel shown from each screenshot, and from what I've been reading, I can't wait to get behind the wheel of whatever I can hop into first and begin exploring.

Dustin Chadwell: I am damn near salivating to revisit an HD version of San Andreas and its surrounding area with GTA V. Every drop of information or small reveal we've gotten so far has sent my hype meter soaring, which keeps GTA V at or near the top of my list for this year. It also sounds, despite being early, that Rockstar has taken some of the GTA IV complaints to heart, and this could potentially be a return to form for the series.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: It's Grand Theft Auto. Call of Duty is about the only other game franchise that can attract the same attention. Grand Theft Auto V's adding some new features, such as a trio of protagonists who swap between the main character role, but everyone knows what to expect: a massive city, beautiful visuals, and a Hollywood-inspired open world. It's had some strict competition in recent years, even from Rockstar itself with Red Dead Redemption, but Grand Theft Auto V looks to have everything it needs to be king of the genre.

Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: GTA is a series very much set in its ways. In every game, you more or less know what to expect, and yet with every game, Rockstar manages to deliver something much more than a retread. There is little doubt that GTA V will capture the same essence that has driven the underlying gameplay of the series so far, but it will be interesting to see the new elements. At the same time, GTA 4 was such a step up over the previous game that I think it'll be hard for Rockstar to top itself this time around.
