As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

3. 'Bayonetta 2' (WiiU)

by Judy on Jan. 25, 2013 @ 12:30 a.m. PST

Brimming with intricate battles that take place in, on and all over epic set pieces, Bayonetta 2 finds our sassy heroine battling angels and demons in unearthly beautiful HD.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: It's rare that a mere name can cause such an uproar. The original Bayonetta was considered one of the finest action games of the era, mixing fast and stylish action with nearly perfect controls. However, a variety of issues made it seem unlikely we'd ever see a sequel. Bayonetta 2 was a surprise. Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U was a shock. Yet the system doesn't matter. Just knowing that a sequel is out there is enough to get one pumped up for more.

Brian Dumlao: It's easy to say that no one saw this coming. A high action Mature title published by Nintendo seemed like an absurdity, but with the original creators at the helm, expectations are high. The Wii U already has some high-speed action titles on the system, but if this one can pull off the trick of playing and performing better on what is perceived to be an underpowered console, it might convince others that Nintendo's latest little box is more powerful than anyone thinks.

Jason Grant: The story so far: Bayonetta is the current gold standard in high-speed, super-stylish action games. Platinum Games is making a sequel, which they claim will be far greater in scope than the first. Now that you're caught up, let the salivating commence — and try not to think too hard about its hypothetical release date, which might not even be this year! Sigh.

Erik "NekoIncardine" Ottosen: Remember a couple of years back when we got a proper Devil May Cry sequel? No? Me either. Luckily, the Mario company's giving us more Bayonetta, and what we've seen so far indicates it's going to be a marquee title for the Wii U's hardcore base. I'd say that more than makes up for not getting DmC.
