Dustin Chadwell: I'm not sure I know a person who doesn't get excited for a new mainline Zelda adventure. Considering what we've seen thus far of this upcoming Wii U release, I doubt I'll be able to find a disenchanted Zelda fan anytime soon. The scale and visuals look impressive, and the thought that Nintendo may make sweeping changes to the Zelda formula certainly has my interest piqued.
Chris DeAngelus: There are countless fantasy games out there, but there's something about the Zelda franchise that makes it stand out. It might be the tight gameplay or the unending sense of adventure, but the Zelda series is one of the best-selling in the world for a reason. The latest Wii U offering looks to bring the franchise back to its roots with a large open-world adventure. The protagonist is still Link, who has his trusty sword and loyal horse, and you can assume there will be a Zelda and a Gannon somewhere. Yet this Zelda looks bigger than any that has come before, and it has the potential to bring the franchise to a new level.
Brian Dumlao: The Legend of Zelda is always treated as a big event whenever it's released on a home console, and this year's version is no exception. The large, open world may have been done before in past Zelda titles, but not at this level of detail, which is reminiscent of greats like Ocarina of Time. Even if all Nintendo does is expand the world but keep the basic 3-D mechanics, there's little doubt that it will match the quality of past titles in the series. The only thing working against it is that even this early in 2015, there's a number of quality titles that are already headed to the Wii U platform.
