About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

17. 'Baldur's Gate 3' (PC)

by Judy on Feb. 15, 2021 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Baldur's Gate III is the official next adventure in the venerable Baldur's Gate series.

Lauren "Feffy" Hall: It's pretty difficult to find fault with a game of this kind when the previous titles were so successful. As a game that greatly appeals to the Dungeons and Dragons fanbase, bringing to life your own carefully crafted character with the same care and consideration that you would your own pen-and-paper Dungeons and Dragons character is the first ingredient in the recipe for success. Baldur's Gate 3 is bound to be a great RPG, as it is created by the masters of the D&D RPG, and previous games haven't failed to deliver heroic adventures in the fight between good and evil in the Forgotten Realms. A good story to tell, cool-looking graphics and unique character creation paired with what is bound to be well-crafted turn based dynamic game play? In my book, that points to a great game in 2021.

Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: Baldur's Gate 3 is the RPG of my dreams. Even in early access, it's been compelling, full of beautiful landscapes and interesting characters and a story that I struggle to pull myself away from, and with every patch, it just gets better and better. Larian isn't pulling any punches, and I can't wait until the full release.

Andreas Salmen: Larian Studios has proven that it's capable of creating polished and deep isometric RPG experiences with the Divinity titles. It's my love and respect for that series that makes me eagerly await the full release of Baldur's Gate 3. If the early access glimpses we have gotten so far are anything to go by, we are in for a truly massive and branching CRPG that tries to bridge the gap between classic Baldur's Gate and Larian's signature brand of RPG and combat. With the possibility of true co-op play that even affects cut scenes, I'm completely sold on the concept.

Rainier Van Autrijve: It's been two decades since Baldur's Gate II, so it's been a long wait for a full-fledged third installment in the series. The fact that Larian Studios (Belgian developer behind the amazing Divinity series) is in charge of Baldur's Gate III should get any RPG fan's attention. Baldur's Gate III sports extensive character creation options, a wide assortment of classes, a huge single-player campaign (co-op for up to four players), and Larian's typical mix of real-time and turn-based action based on the D&D 5E ruleset all dressed up in modern day graphics. Do I really need to say more?
