About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

14. 'Beyond Good & Evil 2' (PS4/XOne/PC)

Beyond Good & Evil 2 acts as a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with unforgettable characters, grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe.

Redmond Carolipio: I'll believe it when I play it. I feel like we've been waiting on this one for years to the point where I don't even know what hype could be considered realistic for it, but I would really want to see where Jade's story and development goes after all this time as passed. What kind of game will it be? What will we see that we might not have seen before?

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is one of those games that has been coming for over a decade. In development since at least 2008, it's been one of the more anticipated sequels to date. While it's been a while since we've seen much of the game, what we have seen looks awful interesting. It's not clear if the game is a sequel or prequel, but a lot of familiar faces have been in the footage. Hopefully we'll hear more about this long-coming game in 2021, and maybe we'll even see its much-awaited release.

Joseph Doyle: While I wasn't the right age to play the first Beyond Good & Evil when it came out, I had the opportunity later in life. The controls may not have held up, but I was entranced by the world: the different beings, the world design, camera gameplay options, etc. I've obviously heard the amazing things about this game from those who appreciated the first, so being able to play a more updated version is incredibly exciting for me.

Cody Medellin: We've been told it's still happening, even with the recent shift in leadership for the project that happened over the past year. An unlikely sequel that's actually a prequel to a early 2000s-era critical and cult hit sounds great and would be a brilliant release, but we need to know more about what it actually is and where it's going gameplay and story-wise. Hopefully the new year finally gives us this info.

Adam Pavlacka: At this point, I'm convinced that Ubisoft has no idea what it wants to do with Beyond Good & Evil 2. It's not a direct sequel to the original game. Ubisoft has been crowdsourcing ideas via HITRECORD. We've seen rendered trailers. We've seen concept art. We've heard about space pirates and a weird glowy substance called Diwalite that does everything from make cool tattoos to powering any item you can think of. Of course, it's rare, valuable, and dangerous. But there's still a big mystery about how it all comes together and what it's going to feel like when you play it. Maybe there is a big grand plan and they just haven't told us. Maybe they're figuring it out as they go along. Either way, the game has an air of mystery (and a sweet cyberpunk/fantasy/sci-fi aesthetic) that has done nothing but build anticipation.
