2. 'Horizon Forbidden West' (PS5/PS4)

Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy's story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: Horizon: Zero Dawn was a tremendously creative new setting. PostApocalyptic robot dinosaurs might sound ridiculous on paper, but Zero Dawn made it work, helped by its likeable protagonist, Aloy. Forbidden West is going to take Aloy to new lands with new dinosaurs, new weapons, and most likely new reasons to curse Ted Faro's name. One particular feature we've seen thus far is that Aloy will finally be able to swim deep beneath the water, which is certain to open up plenty of new exploration options for everyone's favorite future-hunter. We'll probably be seeing a lot more about Forbidden West before it launches, and there's a lot to be excited about, if just for the chance to spear a swimming robo-plesiosaurus and harvest its parts for a cool new weapon.

Cody Medellin: The original game was a stellar open-world title and showed off that Guerrilla can break out of its Killzone mindset and into something much more grand. There's big hope that the studio can pull it off again in its sequel to what was essentially Sony's answer to Breath of the Wild, and the early trailer showed lots of promise. What's going to be interesting is that the title is planned for both PS4 and PS5, making one wonder what cutbacks had to be made. Also, with the first game's recent release on the PC, will PC players also be playing this title with a little bit of patience?

Andreas Salmen: I enjoyed playing Horizon: Zero Dawn but was slightly disappointed by what it did with its promising setting. Much of its world felt too formulaic and close to the tried-and-true open-world systems we've seen for years. If Forbidden West manages to keep building on its fun and clever combat mechanics while pushing its open-world aspects, Forbidden West could make a big splash once it releases on PS5. I hope that the planned PS4 version doesn't get left in the dust or hinders the advancements we can expect to see in the sequel.

David Silbert: When Horizon: Zero Dawn released in 2017, it impressed many with its satisfying combat, vibrant visuals, and massive open world. However, it was Horizon's surprisingly emotional story and kickass protagonist Aloy that ended up stealing the show. While expectations are high for the sequel, all signs point toward Guerrilla Games taking this franchise to even greater heights.
