14. 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' (Switch, PS5, PS4, XSX, XOne, PC)

Discover a vast, haunted kingdom in Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to the award-winning action-adventure. Explore, fight and survive as you ascend to the peak of a land haunted by silk and song.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: A member of the "we've been waiting a long time" group, Silksong is the sequel to the amazing Hollow Knight. Set after the events of the first game, Silksong will follow popular character Hornet on her own adventure. What we've seen of the game shows off Hornet's unique talents, ranging from using her thread-and-needle weapon to zooming around the map to more fast-paced and intense-looking combat. The original Hollow Knight earned enough goodwill that it's easy to see why fans wait with bated breath for this indie gem in the making.

Cody Medellin: Fans of the original Hollow Knight have been waiting for any hint of a sequel, and there has been no news for various game conferences. Fans finally got some news at Microsoft's show. The game already looked perfect enough that any graphical changes would be barely noticeable, but the knowledge that there's a whole new place to explore with new moves at your disposal is enough to get people excited when this finally hits.

Tim McDonald: Hollow Knight was a surprise favorite of mine. I'm picky when it comes to Metroidvanias, and I didn't expect to love the creepy-cute bug adventure of Hollow Knight quite as much as I did, but "it's a Metroidvania with a very Dark Souls vibe" was apparently something I really wanted. Silksong was originally meant to be a DLC that let you play as Hornet, a side character from the base game, but Hollow Knight did so well and Silksong's scope expanded so much that it's now a de facto sequel to the original. More areas, more enemies, a full-fledged quest system, crafting, and — because we're playing as Hornet — faster movement and more focus on mobility are the headline new features here, and I'm more than eager to play with all of them.

Andreas Salmen: Hollow Knight is the best Metroidvania game of recent years, including the most recent Metroid games themselves. It's beautiful, ripe with atmosphere, and rewarding. I'm not sure Silksong can surpass such a glorious debut, but even if it doesn't, it sure looks like more of the same. That cannot be a bad thing.
