About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

11. 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' (Switch, PS5, PS4, XSX, PC)

Discover a vast, haunted kingdom in Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to the award-winning action-adventure. Explore, fight and survive as you ascend to the peak of a land haunted by silk and song.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: Hollow Knight is one of the finest Metroidvanias ever made, mixing up engaging platforming and blistering boss fights with an absolutely absurd amount of content. The sequel, starring popular fan favorite Hornet, has been in development for years. It originally started as a DLC for the first game before becoming a fully-fledged sequel. Hornet's unique needle-and-thread gameplay has the potential to make Silksong even better than the original, and the long wait has only made the anticipation build.

Cody Medellin: Silksong has been a mainstay on these lists ever since the sequel was announced and for good reason. The promise of new abilities and quests for one of the more beloved Metroidvania titles is enough to get people excited, and the lack of constant public updates or news has kept the fervor consistently high. We wouldn't be surprised if this appears on our lists again next year, but it would be nice to finally see this title after so long.

Andreas Salmen: Hollow Knight is a game I still replay from time to time. It's one of the most incredible indie gems to me and likely also a significant factor for the inflationary pile of Metroidvanias released in the years since. But then nothing followed up that remarkable indie hit. Although it was announced close to five years ago, the sequel Silksong has eluded us entirely. I'm hoping 2024 is finally the year we get to play Silksong and that it picks up where Hollow Knight left off. Following up on a universally loved and critically acclaimed game is no small feat. If it manages to remotely reach those same heights, it'll likely be one of the best indies of the year.
