15. 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' (PS5, XSX, PC)

The series' first new installment in nearly two decades, Onimusha: Way of the Sword returns to a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai clash with the supernatural in cutting-edge combat.

Redmond Carolipio: I'm a sucker for all things samurai and swords, but Onimusha back in the day did all that while adding wild fantasy and magic elements to the feudal era. I remember Nobunaga being an actual demon lord and it being the coolest thing ever. I can't wait to see what happens here, especially since we get to take up the swords of the GOAT swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: The long-dormant Onimusha franchise was best described as Samurai Resident Evil, and it contained a cool and generally underutilized mix of survival-horror and samurai action. After the high-quality Resident Evil titles lately, it's exciting to see what Capcom can do with its other horror series. Way of the Sword follows the legendary swordsman Musashi, modeled after film legend Toshiro Mifune, as he cuts his way through swarms of demons. The gameplay seems to be following the same basic concept as the previous games, with a lot of emphasis on parries, single strikes, and absorbing souls using your cool demon gauntlet. If this hits the same level of polish and care as the recent Resident Evil games, we could be looking at the best Onimusha yet.

Cody Medellin: This year marks 20 years since the last entry in the series, Dawn of Dreams, and having a brand-new entry is a pleasant surprise compared to getting a remaster of Onimusha 3 — although that would still be welcome too. The move to the company's RE Engine means that the game will look stunning, and word that the game will not follow a Souls-like combat system will be music to the ears of those who want the series to keep its own identity. Provided that the company can avoid the issues it had with the PC port of Monster Hunter Wilds, then this should be a winner.

Adam Pavlacka: Onimusha: Way of the Sword feels a lot like what I'd expect the original Onimusha to be if it were developed today. Way of the Sword isn't a reboot, but it maintains the action and sense of humor of the franchise. Even if you've never played any of the Onimusha games, keep this one on your radar. Oh, and learn to parry.
