Valve Shuts Down WON Authentication Servers

Starting July 26th, the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam.

Electronic Arts today announced that The Urbz: Sims in the City, the latest franchise from the celebrated studio behind The Sims, is in development for the Nintendo DS. After yesterday's exciting announcement about DOOM 3 going gold, id's Todd Hollenshead sent out some information about a possible demo, "our priority was finishing the game first and now we are turning our attention to the demo. I don't have any information to share regarding any specific content, but I don't believe that we have ever disappointed in that regard in the past. We will release the demo as soon as it's done, but this probably won't happen until after the game has arrived on U.S. store shelves." Of course, we will have it mirrored on our file server network as soon as it becomes available ...

'Counter-Strike' Gets New Steam Update

The official Steam website has word that an update for CS:CZ and HLTV has just been released. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. CZ servers will need to be restarted in order to run this update. CS:CZ adds 2 new maps (de_truth_cz & de_corruption_cz), as well as a slew of game tweaks but also three previously unreleased 'Deleted Scenes' missions Fastline, Sandstorm, and Pipe Dream.
