by Rainier on Nov. 16, 2001 @ 3:18 p.m. PST

Ubi Soft® Entertainment and Team 17 announced today a worldwide publishing agreement for the PSone and Game Boy Advance versions of the hugely popular Worms World Party. Team 17 had previously bought back the rights to Worms World Party from embattled publisher EON as the latter begins to clear its portfolio.

Ubi Soft fought off various top publishers to secure one of the industry’s leading franchises, which now joins Team 17’s forthcoming puzzle game Worms Blast as part of the Global publisher’s enviable roster of titles. The PSone version of Worms World Party will now be released under the Ubi Soft banner for just £9.99 in December, with the Game Boy Advance to follow in the first quarter of 2002. Likewise, the PC and PlayStation 2 versions of Worms Blast will be released in Q1 2002.The Worms series has achieved global sales in excess of six million units and has regularly appeared in the European charts over the last six years. Worms World Party is one of the worlds most entertaining, humorous and addictive gaming experiences and has been specially adapted for both Game Boy Advance and PlayStation, continuing the unrivalled mix of strategy and arcade elements.

Players are given full control over a party of four worms and sent into battle against rival factions. Using an arsenal of weapons including earthquakes, mines, air strikes and an array of guns, the aim of the game is to blow enemy worms to smithereens and be the 'last worm standing'. In addition, Worms World Party also benefits from plentiful multi-player and solo missions, training sections, and all new ‘Wormopedia’ and ‘Wormpot’ features.

Worms World Party is an innovative mix of arcade and comic set pieces that is guaranteed to reaffirm the series’ reputation as one of the most addictive games imaginable. Team 17’s Commercial Director Debbie Bestwick commented: “We are especially pleased with the Game Boy Advance and PSone editions of Worms World Party, both of which are great extensions to the Worms franchise. After working with Ubi Soft on Worms Blast, experiencing their attitude and professionalism I am pleased to announce that they have secured the global rights to this title”.

Rob Cooper, Managing Director of Ubi Soft (Northern Europe/ Australasia/ Export) added: “With the marketing strategy in full swing for Worms Blast on PC and PlayStation 2 we are delighted to be publishing yet another quality Team 17 title. Worms World Party has already been highly praised in the specialist press and at the incredible price of £9.99 for a totally original and highly addictive PSone game it is guaranteed to be a huge success this Christmas”
