Girls swooned and grown men wept when they heard that enigmatic secret agent James Pond was to be making a comeback on Nintendo Game Boy Advance, in James Pond - Codename Robocod . The new title will be a remake of the second title in the hugely successful series, with updated graphics and full use of the power of the Game Boy Advance.
James Pond made his debut in 1990, and went on to appear on 13 console and computer formats including Sega Megadrive (Genesis), Super Nintendo (SNES) and Nintendo Game Boy, until his early retirement due to injury in 1994. His adventures were published by such luminaries as Electronic Arts, Ocean, US Gold and JVC, and sold an estimated 2,000,000 units.
Marco Huesges, president and member of the board of SWING! Entertainment Media AG, said “This is a proud moment for us - the World is crying out for a new hero and we were delighted that Mr Pond agreed to take up the challenge. We are sure that he will not disappoint his fans, who have eagerly awaited his return”.
Creature Labs´ Publishing Director, Howard Newmark added “As Nintendo approved Game Boy Advance developers, we are very excited about updating this dynamic hero and addictive gameplay with the 21st century gamer in mind. We´re also very pleased to be working with SWING! to bring this new game to fans of the original James Pond series, as well as to a whole new generation of enthusiasts.”
The new title will be released in late 2002 and will precede an all-new blockbuster title featuring James Pond for Next-Generation consoles, slated for a 2003 release.
