I knew nothing about Snowcross until the Preview copy arrived and lightened up my otherwise boring day.
The name Snowcross gives away what kind of game it is, you drive a snow scooter, thru snow and its proberly going quite fast.
The aim is to win a maximum of races in order to come top of the ranking. Players can also accept new challenges on even crazier secret circuits and win new snowmobiles. Players use the obstacles and objects on the track like ski-jumps and perform the most incredible acrobatic figures. In this way they win points and improve the performance of their snowmobiles. Everything’s allowed in order to win! Players can push their competitors, bring them down or force them off the track. And to gain ground, players can leave the track at any moment and cut across fields or take shortcuts hidden in the scenery.
You have 10 different courses and you can choose to play daytime, night time, bad weather etc.
Four Game Modes:
- Championship: the player starts the season and goes through race after race to beat all records.
- Instant action: SnowCross chooses the races and challenges for the player.
- Single event: single races in which the player must come out on top!
- Multi-player: on a shared screen for up to four players
A few months back a Swedish company released a similar game, which was good, but in my opinion it lacked a bit of Game Feeling.
That is something you wont miss in this game because Vicarious Visions has captured just that very important Game Feeling.
"Game Feeling", you say. What on earth is he talking about, how about an example?
All right, here goes:
While playing I decided to take a shortcut and ended up in driving right down a ravine and while flying waiting to hit the ground I felt like I was actually falling down.
Now that is Game Feeling.
Ravines, forests and frozen lakes are a few things you will encounter on your way and I can recommend shortcutting through a forest, it can be a really good move.
Well not much more to say, it's a great game and it's been fun playing it (and still do). And remember, when its cold outside and snowing like crazy, what's better than sitting inside in front of the warm computer and driving some Snow cross?
