TDK Mediactive, Inc., a global publisher of entertainment software, is pleased to announce that since its May 7th launch date, over 100,000 units of Shrek Fairy Tale FreakDown(tm) for the Game Boy(r) Color have shipped to retail consumers and distributors. According to NPD Groups' TRSTS sell through report, Shrek Fairy Tale FreakDown was the fifth best selling Game Boy Color title and the 17th best selling video game for the week of June 3 - June 9, 2001.
TDK Mediactive's ranking in the portable video game software category was also #9 for the month of May and Shrek Fairy Tale FreakDown entered the Top 50 of all video games sold during the same period. The company garnered a 1.5% unit share and a 1.6% dollar share of the portable game category with sell
through for the month exceeding 16,000 units.
"The shipping numbers for Shrek were within expectations and we are pleased with the sell through to date," said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "The success of the DreamWorks film has translated to a great awareness for the interactive franchise, and we look forward to more interactive Shrek adventures, beginning in the fall with our exclusive title for the Xbox."
The DreamWorks feature film "Shrek" opened nationwide on May 18th and has grossed over $197.2 million dollars in the first month at the box office. "Shrek" for the Xbox(tm) video game console from Microsoft is scheduled to ship this fall in tandem with the video and DVD release of the "Shrek" movie.
Shrek Fairy Tale FreakDown for Game Boy Color takes players on a no holds barred, irreverent comical fighting adventure as characters from the movie duke it out for the title of "Ultimate Champion." Players can compete as Shrek or as one of several well-known fairy tale characters, including Pinocchio, the Gingerbread Man, and the Big Bad Wolf.
This tongue-in-cheek game features:
- 3 difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard), as well as a training mode
- 9 arenas
- 6 characters to play immediately, 3 to unlock and play

Shrek Fairy Tale FreakDown for Game Boy Color is the first game to be released under TDK Mediactive's 5-year, worldwide licensing agreement with DreamWorks SKG.
