PRESSRELEASE
RELEASE OF LINUX KIT (for PlayStation 2) FOR LINUX COMMUNITY IN EUROPE
Worldwide requests for the Linux kit to be made available outside Japan have continued, and over 9,000 Linux users responded to an SCEE online questionnaire, saying that they would buy the kit if it were available. In response to this movement, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will now release Linux (for PlayStation2) to support the Linux user community across the PAL territories.
The Linux Kit (for PlayStation 2) comprises an internal 40 Gb Hard Disk Drive, a high-speed Network Adapter (100 BASE-T Ethernet), two Linux installment discs (DVD-ROM), and a Monitor Cable Adaptor, with audio connectors, for display on computer monitors. A high-resolution computer display is assumed as the graphics output; standard output being XGA (1024 x 768 dots). With this kit, users can not only run the wide variety of computer applications written for the Linux operating system, but can also create original programs and applications designed to run on Linux (for PlayStation 2).
More details on the product, together with community based features, images and information on where to source the Linux Kit (for PlayStation 2) will be released on SCEE's technology site (http://www.technology.scee.net) as soon as they become available.
With PlayStation 2, SCEE will create and develop a new world of computer entertainment for the broadband era through the fusion of games, music, movies, broadcasting and publishing in Europe.
