Capcom Eurosoft today confirmed that it will be publishing its first PlayStation 2 titles on Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Platinum range this coming June. The first two titles are Onimusha: Warlords and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X both of which topped the charts when released last year.

CAPCOM EUROSOFT CONFIRMS FIRST TITLES ON PLATINUM LABEL WITH ONIMUSHA: WARLORDS AND RESIDENT EVIL CODE: VERONICA X

Onimusha Warlords -
Inspired by the battle scenes of famed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, Onimusha: Warlords is an epic saga of 16th century Japan when warlords launched attacks against one another and fought battles in the name of power. Since its release the game has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and was the first PlayStation 2 title to sell over 1 million copies in Japan.

Onimusha: Warlords is set in the year 1560 in Feudal Japan as the feared and powerful warlord, Nobunaga Oda begins his takeover to rule Japan. Nobunaga has just defeated Yoshimoto Imagawa, another famous warlord, in a surprise attack and now sets out to attack Yoshitatsu Saito’s famous castle in the Mino Prefecture. During the confrontation a young princess was kidnapped. Out of honour, Samanosuke, a samurai warrior and remarkable swordsman, boldly volunteers to rescue the princess, not realising that a legion of demon warriors stand between him and his goal. Based on both actual Japanese historical accounts and Capcom’s engrossing fictional storylines, Onimusha: Warlords will delight all that dare to take the challenge.

Onimusha: Warlords invents a unique weapons system. As players progress through the game, they will obtain three different gems that will fit into Samanosuke’s gauntlet. These gems harness the power of wind, fire or thunder causing an elemental effect on the player’s weapon. The player can use these various effects to inflict heightened damage on an opponent or to solve an action based puzzle. Players must use strategy when it comes to choosing the appropriate gemstone and some areas in the game are impenetrable unless the player uses the right gem at the right place. Samanosuke’s gauntlet is also used to collect life energy from defeated opponents. This life energy gives players both magic power and health points to aid them in the adventure.

Onimusha: Warlords includes the following groundbreaking features:

First ever six-person simultaneous motion-capture.

Finely detailed character graphics rendered at an average of 10,000 polygons per character.

Realistic emotion and character animation with a special emphasis on facial animation really brings characters to life.

Story written by Flagship – Subsidiary of Capcom and famous for its work in Resident Evil 2.

Motion picture quality, five-minute opening movie sequence which won the coveted best of show award at SIGGRAPH 2000.

Dramatic storyline blends actual Japanese history with fictional and non-fictional characters.

Famous Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro joins the project. He is the face and the Japanese voice of the main character. Kaneshiro also lent his talents in character design.

Introduces a unique weapons system – Players obtain gems that add various effects such as fire, thunder and wind to the selected weapon when equipped in the main character’s gauntlet. Players can use this gauntlet to capture the life force of defeated enemies.

Background Animation Technology – Innovative special effects that allow players to see the wind rippling through tree branches and the character’s clothing. True-to-life light sourcing and shadow design add an eerie realism to overall game design.

Highly detailed 3D rendered backgrounds with dynamic camera angles – Beginning at sunset, players will be enveloped in stunningly detailed lighting effects that are part of the intricate background design.

Original music score performed by Japan New Philharmonic using a combination of traditional Japanese and western instruments.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X -
The most visually stunning chapter of the Resident Evil saga, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is an enhanced version of the chart-topping Sega Dreamcast™ blockbuster, Resident Evil Code: Veronica and is designed by award-winning Capcom Executive Producer, Shinji Mikami. The entire blockbuster, multi-platform Resident Evil series has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide making the franchise worth more than $1 billion.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for Europe, headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation, in search of her brother Chris and to solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation’s secretive activities. In her search she is captured and sent to an isolated prison on a desolate Island. While it remains unexplained how Chris, one of the original S.T.A.R.S. team members, appears in Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, players will be reacquainted with his iron will and munitions expertise to seek the truth behind the dreaded Umbrella biotoxins.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic character, Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line.

In Resident Evil: Code Veronica X players control Claire at the beginning of the game and later assume the role of Chris in their efforts to stop Umbrella’s devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (R.W.S.). Now when Claire opens doors, solves puzzles, stores items or ammunition, they remain in the same spot when playing the second half of the game as Chris.

Commenting on these releases David Miller, Marketing Director, Capcom Eurosoft said: “Onimusha: Warlords and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X were both released to critical acclaim and performed extremely well at retail. Now we have the opportunity to include these great titles as part of Sony’s Platinum programme, they represent fantastic value for consumers.”

Onimusha: Warlords and Resident Evil Code: Vernonica X are due for release on the Platinum range this June. Both titles will have a srp of £19.99 and carry a 15+ ELSPA rating.
