by Rainier on April 1, 2002 @ 7:26 p.m. PST

With “Opening Day” right around the corner, Infogrames has announced that Backyard Baseball will be the first game in the best-selling Backyard Sports series to debut on Game Boy Advance system. Backyard Baseball for Game Boy Advance as well as a new Backyard Baseball 2003 for Win/Mac will both be available in June. Both games will include the 30 Backyard Kids found in each of the Backyard Sports games as well as 30 Major League Baseball pros featured as kids, including New York Mets All-Star Mike Piazza.
“We’re excited to be bringing our top-selling Backyard Sports brand to a new platform with the addition of Backyard Baseball for Game Boy Advance,” said Nancy MacIntyre, vice president of marketing for Infogrames, Inc. Beverly studio. “Our Backyard Baseball 2001 PC game was the third best-selling kid’s entertainment title of 2001. Now we plan to hit another grand slam with fans by offering these two new baseball games.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Infogrames to bring the baseball experience to a new level – one that kids can experience anywhere they are,” said Carolann Dunn, Senior Director, Licensing for Major League Baseball. “Backyard Baseball is sure to appeal to baseball fans and young gamers alike.”

Backyard Baseball for Game Boy Advance and Backyard Baseball 2003 for Win/Mac are the only baseball games that let kids play with the pros as kids. In both games, kids choose their teams from 30 Backyard Kids and Major League Baseball pros from every team in the league including Mike Piazza, Shawn Green, Ken Griffey, Jr., Vladimir Guerrero, Todd Helton, Randy Johnson, Chipper Jones, Sammy Sosa, Ichiro Suzuki and Jim Thome. Players can choose between a quick game, single game, season play or the Home Run Derby™ for batting practice.

Developed by Game Brains, Backyard Baseball for Game Boy Advance is suited for ages 7 and up and will be available in June 2002 for an approximate retail price of $29.99. Backyard Baseball 2003 for PC/Mac is being developed by Humongous Entertainment® and will be available in June 2002 for approximately $19.99.
