Bandai Plans to Make Games for NGC Console

by Thomas on Sept. 4, 2002 @ 9:05 a.m. PDT

Bandai Co. plans to develop games for Nintendo Co.'s GameCube video-game console, the first titles from Japan's largest toymaker specifically designed for the Kyoto-based company's new game machine. The software will go on sale in Japan in November, Nintendo said in a news release distributed to reporters in Osaka. Nintendo will handle distribution of the game.

Nintendo, the world's second-largest video-game maker, is the company behind Pokemon game characters. Bandai is the maker of Gundam, Digimon and Power Rangers characters.

Tokyo-based Bandai, which is also known for its Tamagotchi digital pet, made software for Nintendo's N64 game console, the precursor to the GameCube, according to spokeswoman Miki Taneda.

Nintendo shares, which have fallen 41 percent this year, declined 3.1 percent to 13,550 yen on the Osaka Stock Exchange.
