by Thomas on Feb. 11, 2003 @ 2:16 a.m. PST

Multiplay, the UK's leading "LAN Party" organisers today announced the sponsorship of their upcoming i15 event by the game publisher Codemasters. This sponsorship will bring prize-winning tournaments to the event for two of the latest games from Codemasters, the first-person shooter Project IGI2 and long awaited sequel to Toca Touring Cars 2, Toca Race Driver. A prize fund of £1,500 is up for grabs in the IGI2 tournament, which will be played on the retail version of the game due for release on the 21st February. The tournament will see up to 48 clans (teams) battling it out for a share in the prize money. To make things interesting, the i15 tournament play will include a completely new map, pre-released exclusively to i15 attendees.

The Toca Race Driver tournament will be played on the multiplayer demo of the game, soon to be released on the Internet. It will provide the opportunity for gamers who are dab hand behind a racing wheel the chance to win a Thunderdome challenge day, in which they'll get to drive 12 real-life racing cars round a 200mph oval circuit, courtesy of www.jhrockinghamexperience.co.uk. The competition is set to be fierce!

i15 is the latest in the highly successful "i-series" of events from Multiplay, and will see over 1000 gamers from all over the UK and beyond get together for a weekend of gaming on a superfast Local Area Network. Taking place over 14-16 March at Newbury Racecourse, Newbury, UK, the event runs non-stop, giving the gamers over 57 hours of multiplayer gaming action!

Tournament entrants will get the chance to hone their skills and practise for the IGI2 tournament on several servers Multiplay will be hosting on its recently launched online gaming service (http://gaming.multiplay.co.uk)

Craig Fletcher, Managing Director of Multiplay said: "We're really excited to have Codemasters on board for our i15 event. It's great to see game publishers taking the multiplayer communities and growing tournament scene seriously. Professional gaming is already a reality in the USA, and it is support like this we need to bring it to the UK."

"We've already received a huge interest in the i15 event, and it's set to be our largest yet! With massive demand on places we're expecting well over 1000 players at the event, which would break all our existing records and make i15 the first UK LAN party to exceed this milestone. It's all very exciting stuff!"

Project IGI2 is a groundbreaking first-person shooter combining a tense, stealthy single player campaign with a plethora of engaging multiplayer game options. Anticipation for the game among the UK gaming community is huge, with Codemasters anticipating only 15,000 gamers to join the closed beta, when in fact over 100,000 were falling over themselves to register!

Nicky Veal, European Marketing Manager at Codemasters said: "Codemasters are very pleased to support the i15 event as we recognise the value and importance of the active IGI2 online community and are keen to be involved in its development and growth."
