Creative's EAX Advanced HD in TOCA Race Driver

TOCA Race Driver uses Creative Labs' EAX Advanced HD™ Environmental Audio technology to accurately simulate sonic effects such as early reflections and reverberation. The EAX acoustic models are dynamically modified as your car hurtles round the track, providing the most realistic audio experience of any racing game. EAX Advanced HD™ effects sound best on systems with Creative's SoundBlaster Audigy and Audigy2 soundcards.

Game options

1) Simulation mode controls

Simulation mode provides a more physically accurate mechanics model. This can be enabled by entering the bonus code 'SIM' on the bonus screen. This is not recommended for digital controllers, for example the keyboard, as they do not provide the subtlety required to be able to control the car well. This bonus code has no effect for wheel controllers, as it is permanently enabled in that case.

2) 5.1 Surround sound balancing

We have found some surround sound cards to be quiet in the central speaker. Race Driver can be setup to adjust the relative sound balance of the centre speaker by modifying the following parameter in the pchardwareconfig.ini, which is located in the same directory as the RaceDriver exe file.

CenterSpeakerVolumeBoost=0.000000

This parameter can range from 0.000000 (normal) through to 1.000000 (no sound from any speaker other than the centre). We found a value of 0.8719 worked for our soundcard.

3) Surround Gaming on Matrox Parhelia

Race Driver supports the Surround Gaming resolutions on the Matrox Parhelia card. Simply select your desired resolution from the Hardware Setup program and save the settings before running the game.

Note that if you wish to run in a resolution above 1920x480, you must disable motion blur in the Advanced section of the Hardware Setup program or the game will crash.

4) Flickering display on Matrox Parhelia

If you run the game in 32-bit on the Matrox Parhelia, you may experience a rapid flickering caused by the sun specular highlight on the road. In order to stop this happening, edit your pchardwareconfig.ini and ensure that alpha effects are disabled with the line:

EnableAlphaEffects=0

(by default this value will be set to 1)

Known Issues

The game is not stable on an NVidia NForce running at 1280x1024

There is minor screen corruption when running the game with a Radeon 9700

The hardware setup program may choose unsuitable default settings on systems that have more than one display adapter (graphics card).
If this happens, the setting can be changed manually in the 'advanced settings' section.
