'Fruitfall' Computer Games For Girls?

by Thomas on Feb. 8, 2003 @ 2:14 a.m. PST

And we thought our puns were grim. Still, this Cheshire company reckons it's cracked the old "games for girls" chestnut... A UK Computer Games Company "Nissimo" has created a computer game which is more popular with women than men. Fruitfall is a game so simple that anyone of any age or ability can grasp how to play, with enough of a challenge to keep even the most ardent gamer amused for hours. Sales figures to January 31st 2003 show that female purchasers outnumber males by 3 to 1.

And that's not all. A anecdotal evidence suggests that female players are proving to be more successful at playing the game than their male counterparts.

"The original idea was to create a game that was so easy to play that anyone could enjoy it", said company founder Tony Williams. "The more testing and research we did, the more noticeable it became that the women playing were not only enjoying the game, but were more successful than the men."

The game can be tried free for 7 days by downloading from the Fruitfall web site : http://www.fruitfall.com, and costs $15 (about £10) for the full version
