**** Caution ****This patch only fixes issues associated with ATI Radeon 8500 and above. Owners of video cards other than the aforementioned cards should not apply this patch.
1) Installation
In order to apply the patch, you must already have Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance installed onto your computer.
In the archive that you have extracted, there will be one executable file named "mgs2patch v2.0.exe"; double-click on the executable to begin installation of the patch. The patch will automatically detect where Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is installed, however it is always best to confirm that the directory path is correct.
Click on "Install" to apply the patch. After the patch has been applied, click "OK" to confirm. You are now ready to play Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.
***NOTE***-- If you have previously updated to the v1.0 patch, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the game before applying the v2.0 patch. Your savedata will not be deleted during the uninstall, and you will be able to resume gameplay from the point you left off, as long as you reinstall the game to the same directory where it was previously installed.-- It is NOT recommended that you delete any files from the bin directory in the install folder prior to installing the patch. Doing so may result in an incomplete or incorrect update, and the game may not function. The best way to remove old files is by performing a complete uninstallation and reinstallation of the game.
2) Begin Playing Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Now that you've installed the patch, there are several ways to begin playing:
- The Autorun screen will appear each time you insert the DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. Click RUN to play the game.- You may also begin the game by clicking on the Windows START button, and selecting Programs>Konami>METAL GEAR SOLID2 SUBSTANCE>METAL GEAR SOLID2 SUBSTANCE.- If you chose to add a desktop shortcut during installation, double-click the Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance icon on your desktop.
Note: You will need to have the DVD in your DVD-ROM drive in order to play Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
3) Uninstall Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
If you need to uninstall Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, you may do the following:
Click on the START button, go to Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove METALGEARSOLID2 SUBSTANCE.

5) Troubleshooting
SOUND HARDWARE ACCELERATIONIf you have sound hardware acceleration enabled in Windows, you may experience distorted sounds or static during gameplay. To eliminate the distorted sounds or static, lower hardware acceleration for your sound card to BASIC or turn it off entirely.
Instructions on changing the sound hardware acceleration:Go to the Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel. Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices (Win XP), Sound and Multimedia (Win ME/2000) or Multimedia (Win 98) and select the Audio tab. Under Sound Playback, click Advanced, then select the Performance tab. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to "None" to turn off sound hardware acceleration.
SLOW PERFORMANCE IN WINDOWS 98 and MEUnder the Windows 98 or ME operating systems, playing Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance with a gamepad may cause poor performance. A patch may be released to address this issue at a later date. Until that time, it is recommended that the game be played with the keyboard under these operating systems.
PROBLEMS LAUNCHING THE GAMEIf you are having difficulty launching the game:1) Close any other applications that are running on your PC, including applications in the system tray.2) Make sure that DirectX 8.1 or higher is installed on your system.3) Make sure to update your graphic card drivers to the latest drivers available.

Q: Is your sound card a PCI64 using the ES1371 drivers, version 4.05.1127 or 4.05.1129?Please install the latest drivers for your sound card.
Q: Are you running the game on a Dell Dimension 4100/4300 series computer and Windows 2000?Intel identified a problem with the Intel Ultra ATA storage controller, and has offered an update on their web site.

Select the drivers for Windows 2000, download and run the setup program, then reboot.
