'1893: A World's Fair Mystery' - Demo Available Now!

by Thomas on June 10, 2003 @ 3:13 a.m. PDT

The demo version of 1893: A World's Fair Mystery is now available for download. In it, you can begin the adventure, read a little background material, explore one of the exposition buildings, and interact with some other characters. In addition, tutorial information is embedded in the demo to help introduce players to Interactive Fiction, and explains how to use many of the basic commands.

1893: A World's Fair Mystery features over 500 archival photos from the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, historical characters, and challenging puzzles. Players take on the role of a detective investigating a diamond theft and must match wits with a criminal mastermind. The adventure uses a traditional text interface instead of the now common point-and-click interface, resulting in game play based on literary rather than cinematic conventions. 1893: A World's Fair Mystery was the winner in the Best Setting category at this year's XYZZY Awards for its detailed re-creation of the Columbian Exposition.
