Dreamcatcher Signs 'Emergency Fire Response'

by Rainier on June 26, 2003 @ 8:48 a.m. PDT

Every kid grew up wanting to be a firefighter, and every one of us would still love a taste of what it’s like to be a real hero. Forget panty-hose wearing superheroes and men in uniform…Firefighters are the true modern-day heroes, and only Emergency Fire Response gets to the core of their existence. DreamCatcher Games today announced that it will publish Emergency Fire Response (known in Europe as Fire Department) developed by Monte Cristo Games, on PC in North America. A playable demo (in English) will be available for download tomorrow...

“This is a great acquisition for us. The game has received acclaim across Europe, and we’re sure it will do well here too”, commented Richard Wah Kan, DreamCatcher Games CEO.

“We’re very excited to work with DreamCatcher. Their extensive distribution network can help make this game a success. The game offers strong appeal to gamers that seek a challenging non-violent experience", says Stéphane Grand-Chavin, Sales Manager, Monte Cristo.

This ‘hot’ new strategy title puts gamers in charge of a squad of firefighters. But before sending their team out to battle blazing infernos, they must train them in every aspect of firefighting.

Once trained, the player leads his team through 34 missions across 10 detailed environments. Each mission offers the firefighters a new challenge, including battles with poisonous fumes, rescues at major accidents or explosions at gas stations. A strong emphasis has been put on 3D graphics, and the camera rotates a full 360 degrees with full zoom functionality.

Gamers learn to overcome all obstacles blocking their way and discover the best entry points to get to the core of a fire and extinguish it. Hard work and bravery is rewarded with heroes collecting 1 to 5 medals after completing a mission. Emergency Fire Response is one of the first 3D real-time strategy games which rewards saving lives and not taking them.

The game designers worked in collaboration with an international fire consultant to ensure all scenarios look and feel as realistic as possible. The team also focused on creating authentic types of fires, smoke and explosions using particle effect technology.

Emergency Fire Response still awaits an ESRB rating at time of press and will ship on July 15, 2003. SRP will be $19.99. Emergency Fire Response will also ship in Europe as Fire Department or Fire Chief.
