Atari announced the newest addition to the popular Scrabble interactive franchise has shipped to retail stores nationwide. The beloved game found in one out of three American homes, Scrabble is a game that spans many generations. Scrabble Online for Windows offers the most complete interactive Scrabble experience to date with seven different ways for people to enjoy the game they love including solo play, online matches, email games, mini-games and customizable options.

"SCRABBLE is an iconic brand that translates well onto multiple forms of media, including PC and video games, with almost two million units sold(1)," said Nancy MacIntyre, vice president of marketing, Atari, Inc. "SCRABBLE Online represents the most robust SCRABBLE game by putting players' skills to the test with expanded features and the addition of a multi-player experience."

With SCRABBLE Online, players can play a game of SCRABBLE any time and any way they want including:

  • Playing a single-player game;
  • Challenging up to three computer generated opponents;
  • Competing against up to three friends via hotseat;
  • Meeting players of all skill levels for head-to-head tournaments online;
  • Battling other opponents (and the clock!) in Tournament Play, complete with official SCRABBLE tournament rules and a player ranking system;
  • Playing by email - challenge friends and family right from your "in-box;"
  • Against co-workers via the LAN network.

To help players build your SCRABBLE skills, SCRABBLE Online includes addictive mini games like "Scrabble Blitz," with timed turns and games; "Link Letter" where players select tiles that are "linked" together to form words; "Diction or Fiction" in which players try to identify the real word; and determining which player made a move that can be awarded the "Best Play."

SCRABBLE Online also includes a "Personal Trainer" mode with six practice activities to help players work toward the kind of word and game mastery needed for competitive play. Games include: Creating as many two or three letter words as possible using a random set of tiles in "2-Letter Words" and "3-Letter Words;" completing words that have already been started in "Word Beginnings" and "Word Endings;" forming "Hook Words" given two pre-selected letters; and making "Anagrams" with a random selection of tiles.

With SCRABBLE Online, players can also add words to the Official SCRABBLE dictionary and can customize their game boards, backgrounds, tile colors, board position and audio options.

Developed by Boston Animation, SCRABBLE Online is rated 'E' for Everyone and is available at retail stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
