PC Review - 'SuperPower 2'

by GrimlokK on Dec. 13, 2004 @ 1:10 a.m. PST

SuperPower 2 is the only global geopolitical simulation game which allows players to control entire countries. Players control countries in 3 major areas: political, economic and military, but this time, in a beautiful real-time 3D environment. Players build up their own countries and increase their influence in the broader world while competing against sophisticated A.I.

"You can't fool all of the people all of the time, but you can fool enough of them to run a major government." - Anonymous

In SuperPower 2, you take total control of the government of any country recognized by the United Nations. You set the country's internal laws, control the military, and are responsible for the economic and political stability as well. Do you want to start on a campaign for military domination, or will you crush your enemies' economy and watch their governments crumble? The choice is yours.

Well, after playing SP2, I understand why we have such a large bureaucracy for a government. If one person were solely responsible for every single aspect of the government, his or her brain would spontaneously turn into a substance not entirely unlike tapioca in a matter of days. This sim is mind-bogglingly complicated, and the manuals read like stereo instructions. For example, one of the most vital economic statistics in the game is your inflation rate. The game manual says that you should "try to keep your country's inflation rate around 2% to achieve the best economic growth." I don't know about you, but if I knew how to lower the inflation rate of an entire economic system, I would probably not be sitting here writing this now, let alone playing this
