Developer Paradox Entertainment announced today that the upcoming Hearts of Iron – Platinum Edition has gone gold and will ship to retail stores nationwide on September 21, 2004. The game has been rated E for Everyone and has a SRP of $19.99.

Hearts of Iron – Platinum Edition adds a new scenario, thousands of new events, an improved AI and a completely revised manual to the original award-winning World War II real-time strategy game.

"Hearts of Iron - Platinum is an great addition to the original game," said Fredrik Lindgren, Director of Sales and Marketing for Paradox Entertainment. "Hearts of Iron has enjoyed great success internationally and we are working very hard to expand the franchise and continue delivering amazing strategy gameplay to our fans around the world."

Hearts of Iron – Platinum will also be released in the UK and Australia during September 2004.

Hearts of Iron, the first World War II game of true grand strategic scope, shipped in 2002 and a sequel is in development for Q1 2005. The original game received international acclaim from the North American and European gaming communities, including Editor's Choice Awards from PC Gamer, IGN and Strategy Gaming Online. The game was surrounded by controversy recently when it was banned by China's Ministry of Culture for allegedly "distorting history and damaging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
