Ubisoft and Pegasus will create a joint venture company to develop, promote and operate the game. The initial MMOG will be developed by Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio. The game will be rolled out throughout eastern Asia, including Japan, South Korea and the People’s Republic of China where the genre has experienced enormous success.
An epic story about promise, betrayal, nations and love, set in the underworld of ancient China, “The Promise” is directed by Chen Kaige and features an all-star cast with Cecilia Cheung, Jang Dong-Kun, Hiroyuki Sanada, Liu Ye, Nicholas Tse and Chen Hong. The movie is scheduled for release across Asia in December 2005.
“We’re delighted to be working with Pegasus on this exciting project,” stated Corinne LeRoy, managing director of Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio. “This deal is a testament to the increasingly recognized talent of our Shanghai studio, and we are certain that gamers across Asia will relive the emotions and history generated by the movie within a breathtaking universe.”
“ ‘The Promise’ is one of the most highly anticipated movie releases for 2005 and we are certain that the MMO game will be well-received by gamers across Asia that can appreciate the fantasy environment and evolving plot depth that only this genre can provide,” declared Mr. Sun Jianjun, Chairman of Pegasus.
