'Urban Reign' (PS2) Brawls Its Way To Stores

by Rainier on Sept. 13, 2005 @ 2:22 p.m. PDT

Urban Reign promises to offer players non-stop, inner-city brawling action with no time restrictions or referees. Back alleys, junkyards and bars serve as battlegrounds for more than 60 different fighters, all of which boast their own unique set of fighting styles including boxing, wrestling and street fighting. Players can select from over 30 weapons including bottles, bats and 2x4's to be used in the destructible arenas to add to the mayhem.

“The experience and expertise of the legendary teams behind ‘Urban Reign’ have been essential in creating Namco’s next great fighting game and adding this title to our roster of acclaimed franchises,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. “An impressive assortment of brawlers, varied gameplay and robust multiplayer offerings will provide fighting game fans with hours of memorable no-holds-barred battles.”

In “Urban Reign,” players help “tough guy for hire” Brad Hawk bring some inner city justice to the rival gangs of Green Harbor. With 100 missions of full-blown turf war, Brad must unravel the gang corruption that runs rampant throughout the city and government. Players can team up with a computer-controlled partner to unleash devastating combo maneuvers against an onslaught of enemies as they assist Brad in protecting one of the city’s dominant gang leaders. Crack skulls using all possible methods of fighting from 30 weapons found on the streets such as shovels, pipes and bats to unique fighting styles such as boxing, wrestling and kung fu.

“Urban Reign” offers extensive replayability with 60 playable characters including Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law from the TEKKEN series and a variety of gameplay modes. Free mode allows players the chance to unlock new characters while exploring new fighting styles; Challenge mode tests a player’s skills alongside a friend or with an AI partner against wave after wave of enemies; and Multiplayer mode enables a player to fight along or against friends in four-player head-to-head brawls.

“Urban Reign” is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and is available exclusively for the PS2
