'Magic Online' Implements PayPal Feature

Wizards of the Coast today announced it would make available PayPal as a new payment option for Magic Online, its multiplayer online collectable digital objects game experience. The new payment option will be available as of today.

"Magic Online pioneered the online trading card game (TCG) category when it launched in June 2002 and continues to be one of the top revenue-producing online games, with more than 240,000 registered accounts, two million games played each month and nearly 280 million digital Magic cards in circulation," said Justin Ziran, Brand Manager for Magic Online at Wizards of the Coast. "Adding PayPal as a payment option just made good sense. PayPal's widespread acceptance, convenience and security make it a natural fit for Magic Online players around the world and it will go a long way in growing the community of online gamers that play the world's first online TCG."

At present, purchasers of Magic Online cards need a credit card issued by a U.S.-bank. The addition of PayPal as a payment option will provide increased choice in how fans can purchase MAGIC cards, increasing accessibility of the unique Magic Online experience to tens of millions of PayPal customers around the world. PayPal enables anyone with an email address to securely, easily, and quickly send and receive payments online, using a credit card, bank account or stored PayPal balance. PayPal is available to users in 55 markets around the world.

In Magic Online, "digital objects" are virtual recreations of the paper Magic: The Gathering trading cards, which Magic Online players purchase in-game for the same cost as paper Magic cards. Players then use the cards to build decks and battle opponents online. Magic Online offers players the opportunity to redeem full sets of digital Magic cards for paper Magic cards.
