The action revolves around a team of mercenaries hired to track down the daughter of a billionaire industrialist in a globe-trotting story line that takes a supernatural turn when demons get involved.
The film's producer, Mark A. Altman, described the movie as "Mission: Impossible" meets "Silent Hill," adding that it will faithfully follow the story line of the original PlayStation game. It will be set 10 years in the future, however, rather than in the alternate world of the source material. "Fear Effect" will shoot in such locations as Shanghai and Hong Kong, where Tong is an established name.
Altman, the CEO of Mindfire Entertainment, said the $20 million-$25 million project is scheduled to start this year for a late 2007 or early '08 release. Eidos is developing a third "Fear Effect" game for next-generation consoles. The company introduced Fear Effect to gamers in 2000 and followed up with Fear Effect: Retro Helix.
