'Steam Client' & 'Source Engine' Gets Steamy Update #44

Valve's SteamPowered website has been updated with details about a hefty update to its Source engine and the Steam client itself. This update updates source engine base content to support new engine features, brings the friends list out of beta, added a file defrag option and various other tweaks and fixes. Read more for details, or just restart Steam for the effects to take place.

Friends

  • Friends is now officially released, ending the Beta
  • Fixed case where friends list would show as empty
  • Added prompt for new users to choose their Friends name

Defrag

  • Added file defrag option in game->properties dialog

Backup

  • Improved speed & reliability of the Backup utility
  • Added custom disk size option, in addition to the DVD & CD standard sizes
  • Fixed case where backup would produce files too large for some CD burning software to handle
  • Added an auto-run to created backups

Steam Client

  • Added 'Games' option to settings -> interface -> favorite window dropdown
  • Fixed developer name & icon not showing for mods in the games list
  • Fixed issue causing apps a user owned to show as 'pre-loaded' in the games list
  • Fixed case where steam:// hyperlinks wouldn't work for users who used a registry restore tool

Source Engine

  • Updated base content with assets to support newer engine features
