The End of E3 As We Know It
by Rainier on July 30, 2006 @ 1:18 p.m. PDT
Mainly due to out of control spiraling costs, various publishers, led by Electronic Arts, are considering not attending or downsizing E3 2007, resulting in other companies questioning if it's worth the trouble at all. Major publishers have requested a meeting with the organizing Entertainment Software Association body to discuss finances. With certain budgets reaching double digit millions, executives wonder if such money might not be better spent focussing on their own in-house products, instead of an event promoting the industry. An official announcement from the ESA, with possible changes, is expected in the next few days.
