The latest issue of GameInformer seems to have received inside information that EA/DICE are currently not only working on Battlefield 2142, but are also already in the process of creating a sequel to Battlefield Modern Combat, although the new title Battlefield: Bad Company will stricly be for next-gen consoles, and unlike its predecessor, will mostly be aimed at a singleplayer experience.
