About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

'FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage' (X360/PC) Demo on Xbox Live

by Judy on Sept. 5, 2007 @ 12:00 p.m. PDT

FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage is a re-imagining of FlatOut 2 rebuilt from the ground up and specifically developed to make use of the feature sets and processing ability of third-generation technologies. Warner Bros. has released a playable demo of FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage on Xbox Live, featuring three playable modes: Carnage Race, Deathmatch Derby, and Race/Flatout Mode.

Some of the many brand new design and gameplay components featured in FlatOut Ultimate Carnage include 12 cars racing on screen up from eight in FlatOut 2, five all-new single player and two all-new multiplayer game modes over the Xbox Live online game service, over 8,000 dynamic objects per track up from 5,000 in FlatOut 2, widescreen High Definition resolution (720p), dynamic lighting and shadowing all with proper real-time environment mapping on all vehicles, downloadable content via Xbox Live, and 20,000 polygons per car up from 7,500 in the previous generation.

The game, owned by Empire and developed by Bugbear Entertainment of Finland, is a gameplay and graphic triumph. Commenting on the completion of the game, Empire European Marketing Manager, Rob Noble said, "It's done! All the hard work is over and FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is ready to hit the primetime and to take its rightful place as the number one destruction racer on the market. This is one game you need to check out for its amazing action, spectacular visuals and just superb action racing!"

The nitrous tanks are charging and the V8 engines are revving as FlatOut Ultimate Carnage races onto retail shelves in Fall 2007 (currently available in Europe) on the Xbox 360 and PC.

The game is published by Empire Interactive, distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by Bugbear Entertainment.
