Castaway Entertainment to be Voted Off the Island
by Rainier on April 5, 2008 @ 1:21 a.m. PDT
Over the years various Blizzard developers left to seek fortune on their own. After the closure of Blizzard North Michael Scandizzo set up Castaway Entertainment, and recruited studio lead Rick Seis. Credited with titles such as Diablo, Diablo II and Diablo II: Lords of Destruction expansion, Castaway signed with EA for an action-RPG it was working on. Like several other projects things went sideways along the way, and since it was founded in 2003 only managed to ship one title, Yaris for Xbox Live Arcade. All this misfortune is taking its toll as Scandizzo confirmed the studio has laid off 20 people and if no new projects surface, only has a few weeks left until it will shut down.
