Disney Interactive Studios announced an agreement to acquire Chinese independent developer Gamestar. With locations in Shanghai and Wuhan, Gamestar was founded in 2002 and has collaborated on several titles with international partners.

With locations in Shanghai and Wuhan, Gamestar has a six-year track record producing high quality art and technology solutions for interactive entertainment software development. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Gamestar will play an important role in our global growth plans, providing a high quality talent pool for our expanding product portfolio,” said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Interactive Studios. “Our global expansion is aimed at achieving a new level of creative capacity, quality, and expertise in video game software development.”

Founded in 2002, Gamestar has grown into a versatile game software development company of more than 90 people, known for its strong collaborative track record with international partners.

Gamestar would become the sixth studio in Disney Interactive Studios’ growing international portfolio of creative centers of excellence. Disney’s previous acquisition was Warren Spector’s Junction Point Studios, based in Austin, Texas, acquired in July 2007.
