Road to WrestleMania Mode
Professional wrestling without the drama is like macaroni without the cheese. For WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, we went in a new storytelling direction with Road to WrestleMania Mode. Players can choose from several of WWE's top Superstars; each has its own unique storyline tailored to the Superstar personalities. Pick Undertaker, and you'll get a dose of the supernatural. Select John Cena, and you'll find yourself outnumbered against a faction that has claimed the WWE ring as its property. Meanwhile, Rey Mysterio and Batista's tale can be played cooperatively (drop in/drop out) or solo.
Though they all have their own vibe, each story promises plenty of twists and turns while staying true to the characters players follow every Monday, Tuesday and Friday night as part of WWE programming. Fights can erupt backstage, enemies may interrupt during matches and your best friend could turn on you in the blink of an eye. A lot of these kinds of things happen during gameplay, altering the way you play. We really wanted Road to WrestleMania Mode to differentiate itself from Exhibition matches.
And of course, Road to WrestleMania gives players loads of awesome motion-captured cut scenes, fully voiced by the Superstars – 2 1/2 hours worth, to be precise. We've worked hard to make everything look, sound and feel like you're a part of WWE programming. It's the little details, such as match-specific commentary and end-of-show trademark graphics, which we think hardcore WWE fans will appreciate.
We estimate it will take at least 14 hours to work your way through all six stories, and that's not accounting for multiple paths and multiple endings. And believe us: you're going to want to play though every story. Road to WrestleMania is packed with unlockables – many of which require players to accomplish mid-match goals. We're talking hidden characters, new environments and bonus match types – the good stuff.
With Road to WrestleMania Mode in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, we've gone all-out to make WWE-quality stories that are also extremely fun and rewarding to play. We think it's a great new direction for our season mode, and we hope the players agree.
