'Bionic Commando Rearmed' (ALL) Update Nearing Completion

by Rainier on July 22, 2009 @ 3:28 a.m. PDT

Capcom announced Bionic Commando Rearmed, a makeover of the classic 8-bit game originally released 20 years ago, but with added content such as stunning new visuals, new weapons, online rankings, a reworked musical score and the addition of a 2-player co-op mode.

Not content to just add Trophies, Capcom decided to take the opportunity to tweak the game a little bit to make it a bit more accessible.

In an update for the PSN and XBLA versions, GRIN has reworked Easy and Normal difficulties. Note that Hard and Super Hard have been left untouched and challenges.

  • If you die, you will respawn at the last solid ground you stood on, or the last checkpoint.
  • Say it with me now….”Unlimited Lives”
  • If you hook to a point and you realize that your line is too short to get you where you need to go, you can hit a button and reel your line out.
  • If you swing into a wall while still hooked, you will no longer bounce off of the wall, disconnect, and hopelessly fall do your spikey death. Instead, you will bounce off of the wall, stay connected, and reel in.

For all difficulties, GRIN also fixed a small bug with the Super Joe Machine Gun. When upgraded, it will not only have a larger clip, but also deal more damage.

Bionic Commando Rearmed sees a return of the intense 2D side-scrolling, shooting and grappling action from the much-loved 1988 Bionic Commando on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Bionic Commando Rearmed brings the amazing gameplay up to date with stunning new visuals, new weapons, online rankings, and a reworked musical score just for starters. Bionic Commando Rearmed also delivers 2 player co-op, a frenetic multiplayer mode for up to 4 players and a series of over 50 devious challenge rooms to test your swinging skills. What’s more, each version of the game will feature unique content specific to that platform. The title will also provide cross-game interoperability, as completing parts of Bionic Commando Rearmed will unlock new content and provide secret insight into characters and plot of the brand new Bionic Commando sequel coming later this year.

URGENT INCOMING MESSAGE . . .

Wire-tapping the enemy communication in Bionic Commando Rearmed will give the players access to information about weaknesses for the newly-designed Imperial bosses in the game. Play Bionic Commando Rearmed to unlock the original NES character costume and use it in Bionic Commando.
